Hockey Day In Canada is a yearly day-long broadcast of

special features that celebrate hockey in Canada. This year marks the ninth annual broadcast.

The celebration commences from Campbellton, N.B. on Sat. Feb. 21 at 12 Noon ET as

“Belleville McFarlands – 50 years later” – CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada analyst Marc

Crawford returns home to tell the story of the Belleville McFarlands and their improbable

1959 World Championship victory. This uniquely personal story sees Crawford relive the

moments with his father and his father’s teammates.

“Peter Maher’s Campbellton” – Calgary Flames radio play-by-play man and Campbellton,

NB native Peter Maher provides viewers an introspective tour of the town and community

that helped launch his career as one of the premiere NHL broadcasters.

“Dick Irvin’s Best Rivalries” – Legendary voice of the Montreal Canadiens and CBC’s

“Leading by Example” – This is the inspirational story of Master Seaman Dale Shewchuck

of the Canadian Armed Forces and his journey to help Curtis Caron, a partially paralyzed

nine year old hockey player from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

At 3 p.m. ET the all-Canadian NHL tripleheader takes center stage as the Canadiens host

Ottawa at the Bell Centre in Montreal, followed by

Scotiabank Hockey Tonight, at 6:30 p.m.

ET. Mats Sundin makes his return to Toronto as the Canucks face off against the Maple Leafs

at 7 p.m. ET, while Edmonton hosts Calgary in the nightcap of the triple bill at 10 p.m. ET.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / NOVEMBER 24, 2008 SAVARD, SEDIN AND KHABIBULIN NAMED NHL 'THREE STARS' OF THE WEEK     NEW YORK (Nov. 24, 2008) -- Boston Bruins center Marc Savard, Vancouver Canucks center Henrik Sedin and Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 23. FIRST STAR -- MARC SAVARD, C, BOSTON BRUINS     Savard led all NHL scorers this past week with eight points (two goals, six assists) as the Bruins (14-3-4, 32 points) won four consecutive games, moved into first place overall in the Eastern Conference and increased their Northeast Division lead to seven points. Savard recorded two assists in a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Nov. 17, notched a goal and three assists in a 7-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres Nov. 19 and tallied one goal and one assist in a 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers Nov. 21. Savard ranks second in the NHL in assists (19), third in points (27) and third in plus-minus (+13). The 31-year-old Ottawa native has recorded 225 assists since the start of the 2005-06 season; the only NHL player with more is San Jose's Joe Thornton (272). The Bruins have earned points in 13 of their past 14 games (12-1-1) since Oct. 25, outscoring their opponents 49-26 in that span. SECOND STAR -- HENRIK SEDIN, C, VANCOUVER CANUCKS     Sedin recorded seven points, all assists, as the Canucks (13-6-2, 28 points) went 3-0-1 on their four-game road trip and extended their Northwest Division lead to five points. Sedin recorded one assist each in a 2-1 shootout loss to the New York Islanders Nov. 17 and a 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers Nov. 19, tallied a pair of assists in a 3-2 victory at Minnesota Nov. 20 and finished the week with three more in a 3-1 win at Pittsburgh Nov. 22. Sedin increased his season points total to a club-leading 21 (three goals, 18 assists), two more than twin brother Daniel (9-10--19). THIRD STAR -- NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN, G, CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS     Khabibulin posted a 3-0-0 record with a 2.90 goals-against average and .918 save percentage as the Blackhawks (10-4-5, 25 points) began their six-game road trip with three consecutive victories. Khabibulin stopped 36 shots and both shootout attempts in a 3-2 victory at Phoenix Nov. 18, made 31 saves in a 6-3 victory at Dallas Nov. 20 and finished the week with 34 stops in a 5-4 overtime victory at Toronto Nov. 22. Khabibulin improved his season record to 7-1-4 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .920 save percentage. He has not suffered a regulation loss in his past 11 appearances, going 7-0-4 since Oct. 15.

Longtime NHL player, coach Bep Guidolin dies

Bep Guidolin, the youngest player to ever suit up in an NHL game, has died at the age of 82.

According to his family he died in hospital Monday, in a Barrie, Ont., about 66 years after he set a record that will likely stand forever.

Guidolin was one month shy of his 17th birthday when he played with the Boston Bruins on Nov. 12, 1942. The minimum age of NHLers would be bumped to 18 in 1965.

Born Armand Guidolin in Thorold, Ont., and raised in Timmins, Ont., he was known by his nickname throughout his pro playing career and then behind the bench, a career that included separate stints coaching Hall of Famer Bobby Orr.

Guidolin was pressed into action in the NHL due to a shortage of players during the Second World War, but would eventually have his career interrupted for a year due to military service.

The left winger would score 107 goals and 171 assists in 519 career games over nine seasons.

His most productive years were with Chicago in 1949-50, when he recorded 17 goals and 34 assists in 70 games. He also played for the Detroit Red Wings.

Guidolin would move on to coaching, eventually landing with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League, the team with which he won the Memorial Cup in 1942.

He joined Oshawa in Orr's last season, with the team losing in six games in the 1966 Memorial Cup final to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Guidolin was coaching the Boston Braves in the American Hockey League in February 1973 when he received a surprise call from Bruins general manager Harry Sinden to take over the defending Stanley Cup champions, who were languishing under Tom Johnson.

He coached Orr, Phil Esposito and the rest of the talented squad to a 72-23-9 record, but Boston lost in the 1974 final to Philadelphia and Sinden rejected Guidolin's demand for a long-term contract. Career minor league player and coach Don Cherry took over the Bruins.

Guidolin was named coach of the expansion Kansas City Scouts but again found himself at odds with the general manager, former Detroit teammate and Hall of Famer Sid Abel.

Guidolin resigned when Abel wouldn't let him send a veteran player to the minors.

He would move on to coach the Edmonton Oilers of the World Hockey Association in 1976-77, eventually losing control of the team to Glen Sather.

He would continue to coach into the 1980s with teams in the AHL and OHL.

Guidolin had four children with his wife of 62 years, Eleanor.
